1. CONSTITUTION OF THE BOARD    
     

Ranikhet is a Category-II Cantonment. The full Board therefore consists of 14 members including 7 elected civil members. However since 03.03.03 the constitution of the Board has been varied by the Govt. of India and present Board includes 3 members as per section 13 of the Cantt.Act 2006.

2. ELECTIONS
     
  No election was held during the year.  
     
3. MEASURES TAKEN TO AUGMENT REVENUE  
     

The following measures were taken to augment the finances: -

     
 
a)
Rights to collect parking fee from Board’s parking places has been auctioned to private party. This step has ensured steady income of the Board @  Rs. 52,000/- per month without diversion of its man power.  Efforts have been made to provide the toll collection rights of the Board.
 
b) Two new fiber boats were procured for Rani Jheel (artificial lake developed by Board).  This has augmented revenue of the Board by fetching additional income through voting charges.  This has also added to the attraction of tourists.
 
c) Few unused cantt assets have been auctioned for its commercial utilization to private parties.
 
 
4. WATER SUPPLY     
     
 

Water is supplied to the civil population by the Cantonment Board under bulk water supply agreement with the MES. Moreover the Board has its own water supply system e.g. Devi Dhunga Water Supply Scheme, ‘X’ Spring, Mint Spring and No.10 Reservoir. Average amount of water supply to the Board by MES authorities was 0.196 MLD and this was supplemented through the Board’s own water supply  which was 1.55 MLD.  Thus the per capita supply of water  was about 90 lts.per day.

 
     
 

 A total of 30 new water connections were sanctioned during the year.

 
 
 
5. SANITATION
General sanitary condition of the Cantt. Board was satisfactory. In addition to repair of existing dust bins, some new hydro make metal garbage containers with two separate chambers were procured for segregate collection of bio-degradable and non-biodegradable garbage. Besides this 10 metal push carts were also procured for proper and systematic collection of garbage.  Presently there are two group latrines of the Cantt. Board which are managed by Sulabh International Organization and there is no dry type latrines in Ranikhet Cantt. Besides this, extensive spray of Nuvan and machine fogging  were carried out to control the spread of mosquitoes and gammaxene was  spread to control house fly. 
6. TAXES   
House tax, water tax, scavenging tax, profession tax, dog tax, cycle tax, show tax and toll tax are levied in this Cantonment among which water tax, scavenging tax, profession tax, dog tax, cycle tax and toll tax are not levied in neighbouring municipal boards of Almora and Nainital. The rate of taxation is higher in comparison neighbouring  municipal boards.
 
A proposal for revision of rates and stream lining of toll tax collection  system has been submitted with the higher authorities for its  proper  sanction. 
7. HOSPITALS AND DISPENSARIES  
The Board maintains a dispensary with one Doctor, one Pharmacist, one Vaccinator, one Midwife, one Dai and one Peon. During the year 8481 patients were treated here and supplied with free medicines.
8. EDUCATION  

The Cantonment Board maintains one High School, one Junior High School and four Primary Schools. The collective strength of teaching staff in these schools was 31 and a total number 650 students were enrolled in the year 2007-08. There has also been an effort to promote extra curricular activities and development of sports (esp.Hockey)in these schools.

The scheme of mid-day meal for the students of Primary Schools was successfully implemented during the year.
