  RANI JHEEL

As Ranikhet is located at a higher altitude between 5500 ft to 7500 ft. No river is crossing this naturally beautiful small town even there is no such lake/ dam which can preserve rain water/spring water. It is said that there were 100 of spring water sources at Ranikhet but it is observed that during last one decade 50% of dam have been dried.

Keeping in view the above problem the Cantt. Board is developing a huge lake named Rani Jheel. It is beautifully located between two ridges  of Ranikhet i.e. between Canossa Convent  School and Kendriya Vidyalaya.

After complete development, it will preserve rain water as well as spring water of 3 springs dropping in the lake . A check Dam of 30 ft. in length and 30 ft. in height has already been constructed to check the water reserved in the lake. It is funded by the Ministry of Tourism and Cantt. Board has renovated the circular road and surrounding fencing.

  FOREST CHOWKI

The Cantt. Board is erecting  two huts near Jhoola Devi Temple in the middle of dense forest.  The hut will be the functional forest chowki for protecting  the forest by forest staff of Cantt. Board.

As it is 100% wooden structure by the logs of cantt forest, Cantt Board had not to spend much expenditure. This hut is being developed by pine logs at their original shape.

TREKKING ROUTE

Cantt. Board has started to develop trekking routes of approx 10 Kms. going through the reserve forest of the Cantonment 50% work has been completed.

After completion one may reach distant pockets of the Cantonment through reserve forest.  It will be one of the attractions for the tourists as it passes through the reserve forest and one may watch wild lives too. It is funded by Ministry of tourism.

  FOREST & ENVIRONMENT

However, there is approx. 4000 acre of forest land in this Cantonment which is one of the best forests in the Himalayan Region, Cantt. Board has planted approx. 25000 of wide leaves plants in some barren pockets in the Cantonment. Resulting in these barren pockets are now growing as a part of regular reserve forest which are also helpful in recharging the natural water springs and improving the ecology.

  VIEW POINTS

Ranikhet is the most suitable place for viewing the range of Himalayan peaks spreaded over  350 Kms. Since beginning visitors are enjoying the view of Himalayan peaks standing on the road side only.

Now Cantt. Board is constructing some proper view points for having clear panoramic view of Himalayan peaks. It is funded by Ministry of tourism.

  LIBRARY

Cantt. Board is maintaining a public library since last 40 years.  Now the same has been upgraded and additional rooms with sufficient books and reading places are added.  New garden is developed in front of it.  Located in the middle of the town now it is very attractive.

SEPARATION OF POLYTHENE

Cantt. Board has introduced a permanent system for separation of polythene.  50 Nos. of fibre dustbins have been provided in the whole Cantonment exclusively as polythene dumping bins for the local residents as well as visitors.

Cantt. Board is collecting these polythenes twice-thrice in a week which is stored in polythene stores.  After every 6 months it will be submitted to the recycling plant.

  SPORTS STADIUM

The Cantonment Board have it’s own play ground known as NCC play ground.  Long ago there was a sloppy hillock  at the site and the same was developed/leveled by the NCC cadets  and then mainly by Cantt.Board.

After the valuable efforts of NCC cadets the site came up into a shape of  ground.  Thus, this ground is known as NCC ground. At present the said ground is inadequate for the use as play ground/organizing sports competitions.

There is no other play ground for the active use of the public of Ranikhet as well as the surrounding area for sports activities.   During the year a proper boundary wall is provided on the existing retaining wall.  Now it is converted into a proper play ground.
