TAKING OVER OF WATER SUPPLY SCHEME

The State Govt. had commissioned  a water supply Scheme including  treatment plant (Devidhunga Scheme) in the year 1995-96 by incurring an expenditure of Rs. 1.3 crore approx. exclusively for supplying drinking water to the civil population of bazaar area of Cantt.  Since then the plant was operated and maintained by Jal Nigam.

The Cantt. Board was paying approx. Rs. 15-20 lakhs p.a. to the Jal Nigam on account of receiving bulk water supply.

Since beginning it was noticed that Jal Nigam was not operating the plant properly and consequently the public was facing a lot of problems in getting adequate drinking water. During the year 2004-05 a case was taken up with the State Govt. for handing over the scheme to the Cantt. Board.  Considering the request of the Board the State Govt. agreed to hand over the scheme without claiming any cost.

Now Cantt. Board has taken over the scheme without paying any amount to the State Govt.  The Board is operating the scheme itself w.e.f. 1st June, 2005 and during the acute summer the public did not face any problem for the first time  as the Board is utilizing the maximum capacity of the plant.  On the other hand the Board is saving approx. Rs. 10.00 lakh p.a.

DEVELOPMENT OF BOARD’S WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM

During the year 2004-05 the Board has tapped one permanent natural water source located in dense forest at Chaubattia area.

The water is collected in a water reservoir by gravity and is being supplied by gravity to the public of Mall Road area (Bungalow Area).

During the year some other improvements in water supply system are executed.  Among these prominents are as under:-

1.
Renovation of No. 10 reservoirs of 100 KL capacity located below Station Hqrs, Ranikhet.

2.
Renovation of water reservoirs of 450 KL capacity located at Old stockyard.

3.
Construction of 1000 KL capacity water reservoirs at Stockyard (under execution).

  RENOVATION OF OLD CANTT. PARKS

There are 7 old parks scattered in Ranikhet Cantt maintained by Cantt. Board named as Mahatma Gandhi Park, Rajeev Gandhi Park, Dr. Ambedkar Park, Pt. Pant Park etc.  But all of them were in abandoned position without any proper fencing, paths, steps, benches etc.

Only statues of the above historical personalities were standing in the parks.  During the year 2004-05 most of the parks are renovated and now during the year 2005-06 all these are developed into attractive parks for the local residents as well as for tourists.

  PROVISION OF GUEST HOUSE

Ranikhet is a tourist place of international fame. But unluckily Cantt. Board has no Guest-house resulting in Cantt. Board has been facing a lot of problems in arranging accommodation for visitors. Now an abandoned portion of office-building is renovated and converted into a Guest-house during the year 2003-04 & 2004-05. The Board has utilized its maximum store items in the guest house which were lying in the store since years. During the year 2005-06 so many additional facilities are provided in the Guest House and it is surrounded by well developed attractive gardens.

The Board is utilizing this guest house for tourists also on payment basis for augmenting the revenue of the Board as this site is the most ideal for Himalayan snow-view.

REPAIRING OF ROADS AND PATHS

Maximum roads of Cantt. Board Ranikhet were not repaired since two decades.

During the year some roads and paths were repaired.  Approx. Rs. 62.00 lakh was incurred for repairing of roads and paths.

  REPAIRING OF CANTT. FUND BUILDINGS

Most of the Cantt. Fund buildings (school, Cantt. Board office, staff quarters etc.) were not repaired since last 15 years.

During the last year priority was given to the repair of Cantt. fund buildings.  Approx. Rs. 66.00 lakh is incurred for repairing of Cantt fund buildings.
