ENVIRONMENT

Ranikhet is surrounded by forests of Pine, Oak, Deodar and Cyprus.  Its ever-green vistas of exquisite beauty and the sapphire of in circling hills blend with deep blue cloudless skies.  These have a charm of their own, against the back ground of snow clouded Himalayan peaks glistering in the distance.

In order to stop the erosion of soil and to balance environmental ecology, the Board has been planting variety of trees.  Besides, the Board has fenced the re-generation areas as well as by making protection walls in the forest in order to stop the damage.  Cantonment Board has paid adequate attention for protection of wildlife too.

The Board engages 20 firewatchers every year on temporary basis for 89 days w.e.f. April  for preventing the incidence of outbreak of forest fire during the summer months for control of fire as well as to protect the wildlife. The Board has widely taken care of the environment by adopting necessary measures for conservation, ecological and a forestation at large in Cantonment area.

  CANTT. FOREST

The Cantt. Board manages a reserve forest of about 2580 acres.  Massive plantation drives are undertaken every year. Hunting is strictly prohibited. Illegal cutting of trees is strictly prohibited. Any attempts to cut trees/small plants can be reported to the Forest Ranger at this office personally or by calling at 220228 or 220511 or 220850 (Forest Ranger’s Residence).

During summers all the citizens are requested not to do anything that can trigger forest fires which results in a lot of ecological damage.
