  RANIKHET : A HERITAGE CANTONMENT

Ranikhet Cantonment is a famous hill station endowed with bunion beauty of Mother Nature as well as man made heritage. The same are largely conserved till now,  thanks to the stringent laws and rules of the cantonment and disciplined enforcement by the Military Authority.

Tons of beautiful and elaborated bungalow tuned with the nature of hills were constructed by the britishers  some  130 years back.  Most of them are even existing for dwelling purposes and other purposes in its original shape and beauty.  These bungalows are presenting the heritage value of Ranikhet Cantt.

Moreover, the reserve forest of Ranikhet Cantt is one of the dense forests of Uttaranchal.  The reserved forest of Ranikhet is full of pine, oak, devdar, alder (Utish), Suprius (Surai), rhododendron, species(Bras), Miricanagi(cafal). This reserved forest also preserved different  wild life such as:- Leopard, Leopard Cat, Mountain Goat, Barking Deer, Sambhar, Pine Mertin, Wild Bear, Indian Hare, Red Faced Monkey, Jackal, Langur, Red Fox, Porcupine, Cheer Pheasant, Kaleej Pheasant, Hill Parttidge, Black Parttidge, Indian Ringdove, Blue Rock Pigeon, Green Pigeon etc. In fact the forest of Ranikhet is a real heritage of nature which is preserved till date and growing year to year by day night efforts of Cantonment Authority.

One may view peaks of great Himalayas from different places at Kumaon hills but by virtue (or curse) of reckless construction on the road side, maximum view points are being obstructed.  Thank God even today all the view points at Ranikhet are preserved.  We are very conscious to preserve the view of Himalayan peaks as well as the valley by not obstructing them just by construction of concrete jungles.  We are lucky our predecessor have preserved all these scenic beauty as they were conscious about preservation of nature by way of religious belief or intellectual thought. At least Ranikhet Cantt. has preserved this heritage for our next generation to come.

  PROPOSED PROJECTS

  NCC PLAY GROUND
The Cantonment Board has it's own play ground known as NCC play ground. Long ago there was a sloppy hillock at the site and the same was developed and leveled by the NCC cadets and then mainly by Cantt. Board. After the valuable efforts of NCC cadets the site came up into a shape of ground.

Thus, this ground is known as NCC ground. At present the said ground is inadequate for the use as play ground/organizing sports competitions.

There is no other play ground for the active use of the public of Ranikhet as well as the surrounding area for sports activities. Hence the Board proposing to develop the said play ground and to convert the same into a mini stadium. After the completion of the project the same will be a full fledged stadium in Ranikhet having a sitting capacity of 1000 persons.

  SEWER LINE
Ranikhet Cantonment is a hill Cantonment having a slope from south to north. There are 10 big rain water drains leading from main market towards the limit of Ranikhet Cantonment. The Cantonment Board is proposing to construct central sewage system along these drains along with a treatment plant at the limit of Ranikhet Cantonment. After the completion of the project the Cantonment Board will able to provide a clean sanitation system to the residents of Ranikhet Cantonment. The project will also help to maintain healthy environment.
